Electrical engineering and Audio have always been a passion for Mr. Jones. During his third year in college while pursuing his electrical engineering degree, he interned with Texas Instruments Semiconductors. His efforts allowed him to create assembly code related to audio. Concurrently, he worked as an intern at Sunrise Recording Studios in Houston, Tx. With a desire to work for Roland, Digidesign (Avid), and other professional companies, Mr. Jones relocated to Miami to pursue a masters degree in music engineering technology. However, while in Miami he was hired in 2003 as a studio audio assistant and adjunct professor at the Miami Dade College Kendall campus. He later also worked for record labels like: Sony Latin, Slip-N-Slide, and Poe-Boy. While working as a freelance audio engineer, he was afforded the opportunity to record for artists like: Tye Tribbett, Mary Mary (live), Rick Ross, Plies, Kelly Rowland, and Rico Love. Later, he was able to be the recording engineer for sessions with producers like; Mike Dean, Rodney Jerkins, Bryan M. Cox, Playa & Skills, and Mannie Fresh.
While in Houston, Tx. Mr. Jones worked for several professional studios as a freelance audio engineer. Working hours from 6pm until 3am recording feverishly, he was able to be one of the regular engineers for hit producer Mannie Fresh of Cash Money Records. The 3 years of experience as a tracking engineer allowed him to fuse live musicianship with Hip Hop, Jazz, and Gospel recordings. From tracking live drums, funk guitar, bass, and the famous talk box, his experience allows a fusion of genres with a more contemporary aesthetic. Mr. Jones was able to witness the resilience of southern artists like BG, Slim Thug, Chamilionaire, Franky J, and Who??? Mike Jones! His years being a tracking engineer allowed him the full understanding of layering, editing, comping, compressing, equalizing and equally important, collaborating to create music that hits the streets as well as Billboard Charts. Concurrently, he was able to work for one of Houston’s biggest houses of worship, New Light Christian Center Church. As a member of their audio team, he was able to mix audio for streaming while also recording the service to sync with video. Their yearly “Spiritual Encounter” live events gave him the chance to complete live and recorded sound for Israel Houghton, Mary Mary, Tye Tribbett, Preashia Hilliard and many others! As an engineer, his motto is, “Be of service, with technical excellence and a positive demeanor!”
Mr. Jones’ life has always included teaching as a way of encouraging others to pursue their gifts. After completing his degree, Professor Jones continued working at Miami Dade College (North and Kendall campuses) while also working at Dadeland Apple Retail as a full time creative instructor. His teaching experience includes Broward College (North), International Academy Film and Television IAFT (Miami), and Media Technical Institute (Houston). In 2015, Mr. Jones accepted a position at Dillard High School in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. With a rich history of graduates that include Black Violin, Kent Jones, and Jason Derulo, the performing arts magnet school is world renown for Jazz, Vocal, Theater, Dance, and the Visual Arts. As the commercial music instructor at Dillard Center for the Arts, Mr. Jones redesigned the program to meet the newer trends and challenges. Now known for the motto “Educating the Next Generation of Music Industry Professionals”, he redesigned the 2 recording studios and created course work in Logic Pro, Protools, and Fl Studio. He was able to create a curriculum of 3 levels: Beginning and Advanced Music Production, Recording and Mixing Techniques, and Advanced Production/Songwriting. He also added a course, Music Business and Entrepreneurship coupled with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) program.
Having produced under the moniker Philgood Productions, he has been producing and mixing records for many artists and labels: Rap-A-Lot, Warner Bros, Sony, Columbia, are just a few. He is currently releasing music under his artist names Professor Jones and Philgood Productions. While also still supporting graduates of Miami Dade College, Dillard High, and the surrounding Miami Dade schools, his overall goal is to inspire music production skills worldwide.
“The skills required to be an elite collaborator in the music industry can also be applied to life. Not every student aspires to be the next big artist, but every student can increase their self-efficacy, communication skills, and improve their time management. Equally if not more importantly, everyone can enjoy creating something that is their very own… Music production can enhance each of the above, ultimately uplifting our communities and making the world a better place, one song at a time.”
