Google has announced the deprecation of support for less secure applications to enhance the security of its users' accounts. Effective March 14, 2025, Google will discontinue access to non-Google applications that utilize basic authentication.
It is important to note that student email services provided through the Google platform will also be affected by this change. Moving forward, Google users must employ OAuth when using third-party applications to access Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts.
OAuth is a more secure access authentication method that makes your accounts less vulnerable to hijacking attempts.
If you use a web browser or the latest Google Gmail app to access your student email, no action is needed, as both already use enhanced authentication methods.
Miami Dade College recommends using the official GMAIL app or the Microsoft Outlook app to access your student email.
