Program Requirements

To be eligible to request a milestone review to Miami Dade College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program, you must complete the following steps:

  • Be 18 years old and have earned, or will earn, at the time of enrollment into the program, a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Visit Medical Campus Program Requirements web page to request a Milestone Review by the target deadline date.
  • It is highly recommended that students successfully complete HSC 0003 – Introduction to Health Care (2.5 credits) and HSC 0003L – Introduction to Health Care Lab (.5 credits) prior to requesting a milestone review (aka apply to the program).
  • Please note that successful completion of HSC 0003 and HSC 0003L is a graduation requirement.
  • The deadline to request a milestone review is May 1st.
  • Complete a minimum of 25 observation hours with a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. We recommend students complete these hours at a hospital or private practice. The Observation Hours Form (PDF) must be completed and included with your request for a milestone review by September 1st. Please submit the Observation Hours Form to Roxanne Alexis, Student Services Assistant to ralexis@mdc.edu.
  • •Enrollment in the program discipline courses is limited and competitive. Meeting the milestone requirements does not guarantee program progression into discipline courses. For this reason, the following criteria are used to determine which students will progress to discipline courses.

Selection Criteria

  1. Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA
  2. Minimum 2.75 Program GPA
    ( ENC 1101 SocSci, BSC2085, BSC2085L, PHY1004, PHY1004L, HIM2472, Math, Elective, Computers)
  3. Points awarded in several categories (see below). Program Grade Point Average (GPA) will be used to rank students in the event of a point tie.
  4. Completion of a minimum of 25 observation hours with a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Please submit the Observation Hours Form to Roxanne Alexis, Student Services Assistant to ralexis@mdc.edu.

It is highly recommended that students successfully complete HSC 0003 – Introduction to Health Care (2.5 credits) and HSC 0003L – Introduction to Health Care Lab (.5 credits) by the end of the spring or summer semester in which you are requesting a milestone review. Students can submit a request for a milestone review for the May 1st target date [fall program start] while enrolled in HSC003/HSC003L by summer.
  6. Florida residents will be given preference over non-residents.
  7. Final progression to discipline courses will be based on the submission of all required documents. Please note that there is no waiting list.
